Pretty Pieces - Victoria Fringe Festival 2010

After a month and a half of crazy memorising and rehearsing, the

2010 Victoria Fringe Festival

is here!

PRETTY PIECES

by Charles Robertson

is the play that myself and Nicholas Pisapio star in.

The play is a dark drama and runs for 50 minutes.

The play was written for the girl. So I have most of the lines!

Which is crazy since I only had the play for a month and a half and Nick had it since December!!!

I landed this gig after the girl who was originally playing "Girl", dropped out.

I saw an advertisement that Nick had posted and I emailed him.

I got the gig.

A month and a half later, we find ourselves performing 6 shows at the

Victoria Event Centre

1415 Broad St

It has been an interesting ride!

Definitely a challenging, stressful, crazy, eye-opening, fun and rewarding experience!

We got reviewed:

★★★ Pretty Pieces - (Venue 5, Victoria Event Centre) Pretty Pieces offers a tense portrayal of two siblings trapped together in a kind-of impoverished limbo. Fear, frustration and suspicion run through a claustrophobic relationship that verges on incest with its intimacy. The brother and sister struggle to unravel the ...mystery behind their transformation from happy kids to dysfunctional adults. Eerie and Beckettesque, the semi-poetic dialogue runs in circles but progresses to a satisfying climax. Strange and sometimes disorienting, Pretty Pieces successfully creates a dark atmosphere, but occasionally misses its mark. —E.G.A.

I am very, VERY happy with this review as it is the first live public theatre performance I have ever done!

I am so glad I had the opportunity to perform in the Fringe Festival.

Especially in a dark dramatic play that I would not normally even have an interest in!

If I ever perform in a Fringe Festival again, I think I'd like a to do a comedy!

Motivation

It seems to me we're obsessed with having things.

We put ourselves in debt for thirty years in order to own a house.

We work at thankless jobs we hate for thirty years in order to have sufficient money to retire with security and to die in absolute obscurity.

There is another way!

The idea is to dream up the things you want to do and

Make Them Happen!!!

Life is not about having things,
life is about doing things.

Doing things usually has a rewarding result.

You learn things.

You either make more money than you need without being bored in the process, or you discover that you don't really need all that fiscal security to live happily ever after.

You also die smiling.
